Prometheus Cave

From January 8, Prometheus Cave will be closed on Mondays

Prometheus Cave may regard as the visit card of Georgia.  The magic cave is full with stunning curtains of stalactites and stalagmites. While visiting, once again it will convince you about existence of the fairy world. 


Prometheus Cave is located in Tskaltubo municipality, village Kumistavi. River. There are 22 halls found, where just 6 halls are open for tourists. It is possible to walk through the length of 1420 meters in the cave's territory visit the halls and enjoy boat tour by walking the river. Discover real masterpieces of nature - stalactites and stalagmites at Prometheus Cave, which are the most beautiful forms created by nature. While visiting the cave, hanging waterfalls are waiting for you. Be more adventurous and spend your weekend in a beautiful and special area – Western Georgia.

Nature Monuments

Melouri Cave
Attraction: Melouri Cave is one of the largest caves in Georgia.  The entrance to the natural monument is 8-10 meters depth. The beginning of the cave is more difficult to navigate than further inside. A canyon has been carved in the last part of the cave, where a stream is visible and forms a lake. Bats, spiders and beetles inhabit the cave. 
Exploring Melouri Cave is not too challenging with the correct caving equipment – headlamp, and waterproof caving boots.  8-9 hours are necessary to pass through the cave. 

Location: Tskaltubo municipality, close to the village of Melouri, 418 meters above sea level.

Cracked Lake

Attraction: The natural monument has been formed in sub-limestone, a shaft has been opened on the slopes covered by deciduous forest. The length of the gap to the north is 60 m, the width is 2-25 m. A lake is 45 m deep and located 25 m below ground.

Khomuli Cave Natural Monument

Sightseeing: Natural Monument is shaped in limestone. In the entrance part of the cave there is a lake within the depth of 5 meters and circumference 30 meters. The cave is separated into two parts: the first part is wider rather than the second one. There is small lake at the end of the cave as well. 


Location: Tskaltubo Municipality, nearby village Khomuli’s territory, 160 meters above sea level.

Bgheri Cave Natural Monument

The attraction is a cave measuring 1700 meters in length with a total area of 14000 square meters. The river forms a closed valley and flows into a narrow hollow. It crosses the entire cave and loses itself in the depths of the cavern. Bgheri Cave is well-known for its erosion. 


Location: Tskaltubo municipality, near the village of Melouri, 458 meters above sea level.

White Cave Natural Monument

Attraction: A cave measuring 25 meters in length and 3.5 meters in height, the entrance to which has a 2-meter diameter. The cave is interesting for its diverse channels. In recent times, the cave was considered the best place for asthma and hypertonia treatments. The cave is an important archaeological natural monument, where bear, deer, bison, wolf, fox and rabbit fossils have been found. Pottery remains have also been discovered. 


Location: Tskaltubo municipality, 1.6 km to the northeast of Tskaltubo, 140 meters above sea level.

Ghliana Cave Natural Monument

Sightseeing: The cave has two entrance parts. The first entrance’s high is 3.5-4 meters, and width – 7 meters. From 60 meters distance there is a lake within the length of 50 meters. There is a corridor after the lake’s territory, where the depth of the water is 0.5-2 meters. 

The celling of the cave is covered with dripping shapes. 


Location: Tskaltubo municipality, village Kumistavi, nearby Prometheus cave. The cave is located on 142 meters above sea level.

Solkota Cave Natural Monument

Sightseeing: The entrance part of the cave is covered with plants. The karst cave goes slanting, and in the end it is broadening with 10-15 meters. 

There are stalactites and stalagmites within the circumference of 5 meters. It is the rare stalagmites in Europe. There is 8 meters stalagmite with the circumference of 8.5 meters. The cave is a paleontological monument, because here is discovered the bones of the bear. 


Location: Tskaltubo Minicipality, village Kumistavi’s nearby territory, 370 meters above sea level.

Iazoni Cave Natural Monument

Attraction: A 40-meter long arched cave, shaped by small- sized stalagmites and stalactites, located in the southern part of Tskaltsitela Valley. 

Various animal fossils have been found here. 


Location: Kutaisi, southern part of Tskaltsitela Canyon, close to the village of Godogni.

Attraction: At the entrance part of the cave there is a temporary lake,  created from time to time by a stream. 


Location: Tskaltubo municipality, close to the village of Melouri.

The Natural Monument is the cave that had shaped by stalactites, stalagmites and travertines. The entrance part of the cave is 6 meters. After the 125 meters of the entrance part there is a hall, which was the shelter during middle ages.


Location: Tskaltubo Municipality, village Kumistavi, left side, 287 meters above sea level.
